The AkadaPlay "Reimagine" Art Challenge
Theme: From Waste to Wonder: Reimagining a Sustainable Nigeria.
About the Competition
The "Reimagine" Art Challenge is a call to the most innovative young minds within Lagos State Education Districts to turn "waste" into "wealth." In a world where discarded plastics, metals, and papers are seen as problems, we challenge you to reimagine them as the medium for your next masterpiece. Whether it is a vibrant collage of discarded fabrics or a mosaic made from plastic bottle caps, we want to see how you can take everyday recyclables found in your environment and reimagine their purpose.

Rules & Guidelines
- Eligibility: Open exclusively to secondary school students (both public and private) located within Lagos State Education Districts
- Academic Standing: Open only to students with a verified average of 60% or higher in their last academic session.
- The Recycling Mandate: At least 70% of the artwork must be composed of recycled or upcycled materials (e.g., plastic fragments, used cartons, scrap metal, old fabrics, newspapers, or bottle caps).
- School Nomination: Every entry must be vetted and submitted by an official School Coordinator (Teacher). Each school within the district can nominate up to 5 candidates.
- Originality & Verification: The artwork must be 100% original. Students must document the process to prove the piece was not purchased or created by an adult.
- Physical Medium: The entry must be a physical work of art (Collage, Mosaic, Painting with mixed textures, etc.). Purely digital art or standard pencil/ink drawings that do not incorporate recycled materials are not eligible.
Submission Requirements
- The "Reimagine" Pitch (90-Second Video): The student must explain what materials they chose, why they chose them, and how they transformed those specific "waste" items into their final artwork.
- The "Raw Materials" Photo: A clear photo of the "trash" or recycled items before they were incorporated into the art.
- The Creation Time-lapse: A 60-second video or a 5-photo sequence showing the student actively creating the piece from start to finish.
- High-Res Gallery: 3 clear photos of the finished masterpiece (A full-frame front shot and two close-up shots to show the recycled textures).
- Evidence of Qualifications: A scanned, school-stamped copy of the student’s most recent academic report card proving a 60%+ average and attendance at a school within District 1 - 6
Judging Criteria
- Creative Transformation (30%): How effectively did the student reimagine the waste? Did they turn the material into something completely new and unexpected?
- Technical Craftsmanship (25%): The quality of the assembly, composition, and artistic skill used to bring the recycled materials together.
- Environmental Message (25%): How well does the piece communicate the importance of recycling and sustainability?
- Artist Presentation (20%): The clarity and passion of the student’s explanation in their 90-second pitch video.
